Summary of Article:
Three days before the storming of the capital, the Pentagon asked the U.S Capitol Police if they needed help from the National Guard. On Wednesday when the riot happened the Justice Department offered to FBI agents. Even though there were signs that this might happened, the Capitol Police said no to both offers. The U.S Capitol Police Chief, Steven Sud, thought that it would be a display of the first amendment rather than a riot. Sud was forced to resign under the pressure of congressional leaders. Officers from other police forces, FBI agents, and other security came to help when they broke into the capitol. A seven-foot fence will be put up around the capitol building for at least 30 days. Thoughts: I think that the Capitol police should have expected the first offer of help 3 days before the siege happened. The article said there had been signs of violence for weeks. The police should have at least had a plan for what they would do if a mob did storm the capitol if they didn’t want to get the FBI involved. |

Name of Assignment: Siege of Capitol Article Subject: Humanities Facilitator/Teacher: Ms. Terry Description of Work/Assignment: Not long after the siege of the capitol happened, in class, we chose an article about it then we had to write a summary of the article and what we thought about it. Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why? A 21st-century skill I used is global awareness because I had to find an article about current events. What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why? I’m most proud of the summary. I think I did a good job on choosing the most important details of the article and including them in the summary. How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment? I improved on my global awareness skills because I found an article on current events and analyzed it to develop my own opinion on the matter. What was most difficult about completing this task? There wasn’t anything that I had a hard time on while doing this assignment. How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do different? I don’t think it would change anything. The summary turned out well and I still stand by my thoughts that I wrote that day. How does this relate to what you have learned in the past? This relates to what I have learned in the past because I have done similar things in previous school years. In middle school I remember doing assignments on current events every now and then. How can you apply this to future learning? I can apply this to future learning by reading an article on a current event and analyzing to come up with my own thoughts about the event. |
